Single-Player Mission
Three US helicopters head out at daybreak. The sky is a beautiful vibrant red. It’s a milk run over some rice fields. You are Hawkins.

But ground fire hits one helicopter; it goes down in a blaze of fire. VC move toward the crash site. To cover the pilot’s escape, your chopper makes a few passes so that you can use that blessed M2.50 machinegun. Now your team must go in and save that pilot. Until headquarters decides to only send you in all by yourself.

This is a sniper mission. A huge mountain is in the center of the map, surrounded by rice fields. There are four farms, complete with farmers, cows and chickens. There are trees on the outer edges. Trees that you can climb. This is a big map.

After your insertion, a few VC will try to flank you. Get rid of them because you must get to the crash site. Only a few roving VC patrols stand in your way. The farmers won’t hurt you. Who can possibly stop you now?
The VC snipers, that’s who. VC snipers can kill you from a very long range. In fact, the VC can kill you from so far away that you can’t even see them thru your binoculars. I would show you what they look like but every time I tried to get close, they killed me.
Your Garand has only 24 bullets; there are more than 24 VC to kill. Gee, and you wanted to shoot the cows, didn’t you? Well, you ain’t got enough bullets for that.
Sure, you might grab a Mosin off a dead VC from those roving patrols. But the Mosin won’t let you see the VC snipers very well, will it? It’s a genuine dilemma.
One strategy I tried was to camp the crash site near those burning huts. “I will let them come to me,” I thought. Sure enough, I spotted a 4-man VC patrol coming my way. I was congratulating myself on this great strategy when I died. I had done caught myself on fire; I was too close to the burning huts. MISSION FAILED.

The two US choppers remain nearby. You can hear the choppers if you are in the right spot. They can see the pilot from the air. When you kill all of the VC, you will get a radio message, telling you where to find the pilot. Pop some smoke and you are home free.
